FSBT’s 2012-2013 Season brings Major Classics and Intimate Mixed-Rep Performances to Stages Throughout Delaware

First State Ballet Theatre, Delaware’s professional ballet company,  has lined up another blockbuster season designed to delight experienced ballet fans and first timers of all ages from Wilmington to the beach.

Two late summer events will delight patrons at both ends of the state. On August 30, FSBT presents a mixed-rep show of classical and contemporary highlights on the beautiful Freeman Stage in Selbyville. Info at freemanstage.org. The company returns to the Wilmington Fringe Festival September 26-30 with “Walpurgis Night” and its Fringe signature piece, Nonsense in the Sense of Innocence, restaged by Viktor Plotnikov.  Info at fringewilmingtonde.com. Patrons of the 2011 Fringe Festival called FSBT’s performance the “Fringiest” show in the festival.

The Sleeping Beauty, the season opener on October 13 and 14, brings FSBT’s vibrant company to the Grand’s mainstage in spectacular costumes from Russia with Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous music and spirited staging by Kirov-trained Artistic Director Pasha Kambalov.

On Friday, November 16, 2012 and Friday, February 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., the company continues its wildly popular “Up Front with FSBT” format (“Up Front” is always sold out well in advance). An informal, in-studio performance of classical and contemporary highlights, “Up Front” is strictly limited to 100 patrons, who will enjoy a catered reception with FSBT’s dancers, staff and board following the show. For tickets, call Business Manager Mary Anne Grenfell at
302-658-7897, ext. 3851.

FSBT is delighted to continue its acclaimed Nutcracker tradition with performances at both ends of the state. The December 15 Delaware Tech-Georgetown performance marks our 11th annual Sussex County Nutracker, and continues our partnership with Sussex Dance Academy, whose students will perform two Act II variations. We will present four mainstage performances with members of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and the Wilmington Children's Chorus in Wilmington's Grand Opera House December 21-23.

And a new production of the famed classical ballet A Midsummer Night’s Dream closes FSBT’s mainstage season on April 13 and 14, 2013. This delightful and amusing tale of the transforming power of love will delight the whole family. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of the world’s most beautiful ballets and this production is the first by a Delaware company. A Midsummer Night's Dream is FSBT's contribution to The Year of the Bard statewide festival of the performing arts.
