FSBT’s 2011-2012 Season Features Major Classics
and Intimate Mixed-Rep Performances at Stages Throughout Delaware
First State Ballet Theatre, Delaware’s professional ballet company, has lined up an exciting season designed to delight experienced ballet fans and first timers.
Two summer events will delight patrons at both ends of the state. On September 1, FSBT presents a mixed-rep show of classical and contemporary highlights on the beautiful Freeman Stage in Selbyville. Info at freemanstage.org. The company returns to the Wilmington Fringe Festival September 21-25. Info at fringewilmingtonde.com. Patrons of the 2010 Fringe Festival called FSBT’s debut the “Fringiest” show in the festival.
Don Quixote, Cervantes’ famed classic, bows October 8 at Delaware Tech-Georgetown and October 15 and 16 on the mainstage of Wilmington’s Grand Opera House. FSBT’s Don Q. features spectacular costumes from Russia, Ludwig Minkus’s exuberant score and spirited staging by Pasha Kambalov.
On Friday, November 18 and Friday, February 24, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., the company continues its wildly popular “Up Front with FSBT” format (the first “Up Front” in February 2011 was sold out in a matter of days). An informal, in-studio performance of classical and contemporary highlights, “Up Front” is limited to 100 patrons, who will enjoy a catered reception with FSBT’s dancers, staff and board following the show. For tickets, call Business Manager Mary Anne Grenfell at 302-658-7897, ext. 3851.
FSBT is delighted to continue its acclaimed Nutcracker tradition with performances at both ends of the state. The December 10 Delaware Tech-Georgetown performance marks our 10th annual Sussex County Nutracker, this year featuring dancers from Sussex Dance Academy performing two Act II variations. Four Grand Opera House performances, December 16-18, will again feature the unparalleled collaboration of FSBT on stage, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra in the pit and the angels of the Wilmington Children’s Chorus in the balcony.A new production of the famed classical ballet Giselle closes FSBT’s Grand Opera House mainstage season on April 14 and 15, 2012. This haunting tale of passion, betrayal and redemption is one of the world’s most beautiful ballets and this production is the first full-length Giselle ever presented by a Delaware company.
